"Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World" Selected for the Oscars for "Best International Film"

Recently, foreign media reported that China has selected the previously popular animated film "Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World" to compete for the 92nd Academy Awards for "Best International Film". The award will be officially presented on February 9 next year.

The official list also includes "The Painted Bird" from the Czech Republic, "Les Miserables" from France, "The Rap of India" from India, "Weathering with You" from Japan, "Tall" from Russia, "Parasite" from South Korea, "Pain and Glory" from Spain, "Drug War 2: King of Drug Lords" from Hong Kong, China, "Who Fell in Love with Him First" from Taiwan, China, and "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" from the UK.

At this year's Oscars, the number of "Best International Feature Film" candidates has been expanded from 9 in previous years to 10. The entry requirements are that the film is greater than 40 minutes long and released outside the United States, and the main language of the film cannot be English. Ghana, Nigeria and Uzbekistan are all registering for the first time.

On December 16, the organizing committee will announce the 10 selected films, the nominations for all awards of the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on January 13 next year, and the awards ceremony will be held on February 9.

Note: The box office of "Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World" has now exceeded 4.9 billion yuan, creating the second highest box office in Chinese film history, second only to "Wolf Warrior 2", whose box office record is 5.683 billion yuan.

On August 31, the cumulative box office of "Nezha" exceeded 4.654 billion, surpassing "The Wandering Earth" and ranking second in the total box office list of Chinese film history, topping the box office champion of 2019. This is the first time in the history of a domestic animated film that it has won the annual box office champion.

As of August 26, the box office of "Nezha" has exceeded 4.5 billion, becoming the highest-grossing animated film in a single market in global film history.

However, compared with the domestic box office and word-of-mouth, the foreign audiences have polarized the evaluation. On August 29, "Nezha" landed in North American theaters. Some foreign netizens said that most of the laughs came from Chinese culture, and the tear-jerking setting was mainly self-sacrifice, which was too old-fashioned. Some netizens also thought that "the weak plot ruined the excellent production."
