The prototype of the murderer in South Korea's "Memories of Murder" finally confessed and was once praised as a "model prisoner"

On October 1, Lee Chun-jae, the prototype of the murderer in the Korean movie "Memories of Murder", finally confessed! Lee Chun-jae confessed to 14 murders and 30 rapes at one time, including the 9 Hwaseong serial cases presented in the movie "Memories of Murder", and confessed to another 5 murders.

According to Korean media reports on September 18, the South Korean police initially confirmed through DNA comparison that the suspect in the "Hwaseong Serial Murder Case" is Lee Chun-jae, a 56-year-old man serving a prison sentence. In 1994, he raped and killed his wife's sister and dumped her body. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court and has served 25 years in prison. Previously, the suspect had completely denied the evidence. Shockingly, Lee Chun-jae was also named a "model prisoner" for his good performance during his sentence. If he had not been sentenced to life imprisonment, he might have been released on parole.

In September 1986, a woman in her 70s was killed, and until April 1991, a woman in her 60s was killed after being sexually assaulted. A total of 10 cases occurred during this period, but the murderer has never been found.

The classic movie "Memories of Murder" is adapted from this series of vicious events.

The police obtained DNA from the victim's underwear and other places as evidence at the crime scene, and commissioned the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to conduct a DNA analysis, which found the suspect's characteristics consistent with the DNA.

According to the police investigation, the police believed that, except for the 8th case, A was the real murderer in the other 9 cases. However, the statute of limitations for the last case has exceeded 15 years, so it may not be possible to punish him for the Hwaseong murder case. Now that the suspect has finally pleaded guilty, the next step that everyone is watching is the relevant actions of the judicial authorities.

It is reported that when Ha Seung-gyun, who was the head of the Hwaseong case investigation team, heard the news, he and his old colleagues burst into tears. The 73-year-old man was filled with emotion and admitted that he had wanted to "kill the criminal himself."

In his letter to the murderer, Ha Seung-gyun wrote, "I have not been home for several months. I have been running around frantically with the idea of catching you. Even if I forget the birthdays of my wife and children, I can still remember all the dates and methods of your crimes. But what can I do? I have never been able to arrest you. For my juniors and the victims' families, I am a lifelong sinner. I plan to hunt you down until the day I leave office."

Over the past 20 years, He Shengjun has collected countless evidence and information, but he has never been able to find the criminal. He is now retired.
