Game of Thrones Season 8 writer 2DB leaves HBO for Netflix

After the eighth season of Game of Thrones was aired, it sparked great controversy among fans and even triggered a large-scale petition for a remake. As the writers of the eighth season, David Benioff and DB Weiss were of course under great pressure and endured the complaints of many fans around the world. According to foreign media Deadline, David Benioff and DB Weiss will officially sign with Netflix from HBO.

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 writers David Benioff and DB Weiss have signed a nine-figure contract with Netflix to write, produce and direct new movies and TV shows for the company. According to foreign media reports, the remuneration could be as high as $200 million. Netflix Chief Culture Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement: "We are delighted to welcome two masters, David Benioff and DB Weiss. They are a creative team whose epic stories have brought joy to audiences around the world. We can't wait to see what their imagination will bring to our users."

David Benioff and DB Weiss said: " We have had a great time with HBO for more than a decade, and we are very grateful to our colleagues there for giving us a sense of family. We have spent a lot of time in the past few months discussing with industry insiders such as Cindy Holland (Netflix VP), Peter Friedlande, Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber. We can all remember similar shots of the same movies in the 80s, we love the same books, and we are equally excited about storytelling. Netflix has something astounding and unprecedented, and we are honored that they have invited us to join them. "

In addition to joining Netflix, David Benioff and DB Weiss will also create a new "Star Wars" for Disney, which has been in development for more than a year. Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the first "Star Wars" movie of this duo will be the first movie after "Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker", and the current release date is tentatively scheduled for December 16, 2022.
