Gollum from The Lord of the Rings may be directing Venom 2

After the director of the first "Venom" Ruben Fleischer decided not to direct the sequel, Sony is considering letting Andy Serkis, who is both a director and an actor, direct "Venom 2". Serkis has played Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings", Caesar in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and Snoke, the leader of the First Order in "Star Wars". Now there are reports that Serkis has become one of the candidates for the director of "Venom 2", and Sony hopes to start shooting the film in November this year.

"Serkis flew to Los Angeles earlier this week to meet with Sony officials. He is reportedly considered a possible director," The Hollywood Reporter wrote in a news article.

As a director, Serkis has directed "I Breathe You" and "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle", starring Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.

Serkis has been favored by Sony because of his good performance as an actor and director. And with Serkis' rich experience in motion capture performance, Tom Hardy's "Venom" can be taken to a higher level.

According to Variety magazine, Travis Knight, who directed "Bumblebee" and "Kubo and the Two Strings," and Rupert Wyatt, who directed "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," are also being considered by Sony.

The script for Venom 2 was written by Kelly Marcel, and Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams will return. Venom grossed over $800 million worldwide, and at the end of the film, we saw the return of Cletus Kasady (aka Carnage), played by Woody Harrelson. In addition, both Harrelson and Serkis had performed in Planet of the Apes.
