"Stranger Things" Season 3 breaks Netflix viewership record with over 40 million accounts watching

The third season of Stranger Things was watched by more than 40.7 million accounts within four days of its release, setting a new viewership record for Netflix.

The site said Monday that 40.7 million household accounts have watched the show since its July 4 premiere, more than any other movie or TV show in the first four days of its premiere. Of those, 18.2 million accounts have watched the entire season.

When the second season of Stranger Things premiered in October 2017, data from research company Nielsen showed that within three days of the show's launch, a total of about 15.8 million North American online users and nearly 11 million trial users watched the first episode, and 4 million online users and 3 million trial users watched all nine episodes. Among them, about 360,000 users watched all nine episodes on the first day. Nielsen called it "a major ratings event" at the time, but in fact the third season was even more popular.

It is worth mentioning that Netflix has always been conservative about releasing viewership data. The move to disclose the ratings of the third season of "Stranger Things" this time reveals some new trends - that is, when launching a hit product, appropriate promotion is beneficial.

It is reported that the third season of "Stranger Things" has a total of eight episodes, created by Matt Duffy and Ross Duffy, and the story takes place in Hawkins in the summer of 1985. It is the hot summer, the school is on vacation, a new shopping mall has opened in the town, and the members of the Hawkins group are about to become adults. At the same time, the first love has also made the dynamics of the group members more complicated, and they must find a way to grow up together.

Meanwhile, danger is imminent. As the town is threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends realize that evil never ends, it always exists. Now, they must band together to stay alive, and remember that the power of friendship is always stronger than fear.
