Today (July 5), the famous Japanese cartoonist and director Katsuhiro Otomo confirmed that the TV version of the classic Japanese anime "Akira" is in production, and Sunrise will be responsible for the agency. In addition, the 4K theatrical version of "Akira" is also confirmed to be officially released in 2020.

The CEO of Sunrise said that they wanted to integrate the content of the "Akira" comics into the TV animation. The "Akira" animated film was released in 1988. It was adapted from the comic of the same name by Katsuhiro Otomo. It tells the story of a secret military project "Akira" in Tokyo, Japan in the future, which led to a huge disaster, and a journey towards destruction began.
