Godzilla vs. Kong 3 May Introduce Destoroyah

With Godzilla vs. Kong: A New Empire grossing over $360 million worldwide, the Monster Universe has once again proven the franchise's ability to make money. Considering this staggering box office revenue, Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary Pictures are eager to film another Monster Universe blockbuster. Recently, Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla vs. Kong 2, said in an interview that he hopes the next film, Godzilla vs. Kong 3, will harness the power of Destroyah.

In an interview with Discussing Film, Wingard discussed the future of the MonsterVerse, emphasizing that he wanted to give Godzilla an emotional transformation, and that he was inspired by Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.

“It’s crazy because you look at Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, and it’s like the high-end version of putting an actor in a Godzilla suit. It’s the pinnacle because I don’t think it’s been surpassed in terms of how Godzilla was brought to life through an actor in a suit.

For me, if I were to make another movie like this, I'd want to achieve that emotional resonance with the character of Godzilla this time. That's all I want to say for now."

If you're not familiar with the Toho Cinematic Universe and its vast history, here's a quick primer: Destoroyah is an iconic monster. The monster comes from outer space and possesses almost godlike power. In Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, when Destoroyah first fights Godzilla to the death, Godzilla is clearly at a disadvantage. As the plot progresses, Destoroyah eventually kills Godzilla's young son and eventually kills Godzilla on the battlefield. Despite the dark and heavy tone of the story, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah still attracted many fans with its exciting fighting scenes and gripping plot.
