Hu Jinqing, the "Father of Calabash Brothers", passed away today at the age of 83

Hu Jinqing, director of Shanghai Animation Film Studio and the "Father of Calabash Brothers", passed away at 3 pm today at Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital at the age of 83.

Hu Jinqing graduated from Beijing Film Academy in 1953, and then joined the art film group of Shanghai Film Studio, where he began to engage in animation art creation. His representative works include "Calabash Brothers", "Pig Bajie Eats Watermelon", "Ginseng Doll", "Naughty Golden Monkey", "The Snipe and the Clam", etc.

Hu Jinqing is one of the outstanding artists who created and developed Chinese paper-cut animation, and is an animation expert and master at the Shanghai Fine Arts Film Studio. Climbing up and down the camera, hand-painting each frame of animation, it is really hard to imagine the complexity of the era of pure hand-made animation without watching the video.
