According to the latest media reports, Chinese movie star Jiang Wen will star in Netflix's new drama "Midnight in Peking", a story about the Republic of China period written by a foreign writer. It will be a new drama focusing on reasoning and suspense. The "Republic of China Sherlock Holmes" in the play, starring Police Chief Han Shiqing, will be played by Jiang Wen. "Midnight in Peking" won the 2013 Edgar Allan Poe Award for "Best Nonfiction Crime Novel". It focuses on a famous unsolved case in the Republic of China in 1937: Pamela, the young daughter of a British diplomat, was killed in Peking on the eve of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident. It shows the author's thoughts on the case and involves historical factors of the time. This case was mentioned in Jiang Wen's "Hidden Man". Paul French, the author of Midnight in Peking, recently revealed that Jiang Wen will play the role of Police Chief Han Shiqing, and the series will be produced by Netflix. French also said that Jiang Wen is currently practicing English for three hours a day, and he hopes that the series will be like China's "Sherlock Holmes Collection", focusing more on solving cases and reasoning, rather than murder and violence. |
