Steve Yockey, creator of the HBO Max series The Flight Attack, will join Starfleet as the new writer for Star Trek 4. Plot details are being kept strictly secret, but Paramount and Bad Robot both intend for this film to be the final installment in the 2009 reboot series. After 2016's Star Trek Beyond, bringing back the original cast for the sequel was trickier for Paramount Pictures than finding a selfless Ferengi. At least three previous attempts were shelved for various reasons, the most recent of which was a collaboration between director Matt Shakman (WandaVision) and screenwriters Lindsay Beer (Serra Burgess is Loser) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel), and was originally scheduled to be released at the end of 2023. However, due to Shakman's departure from the film in 2022 to direct Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four, Paramount Pictures withdrew the project from the release plan and sent it back to the "space station". Yockey’s involvement is the most positive development since then. The playwright got his start in television writing on MTV’s Awkward Moments and Scream before joining the writing staff of Supernatural for four seasons. His latest project is Dead Boys Detective Agency, a series based on the Sandman universe that will premiere on Netflix in April. |
