Neil explains the difference in Abby's image in the second season of The Last of Us: Actors don't need to gain muscle

The second season of HBO's The Last of Us will be launched in April 2025, and will include many familiar game characters. Some people noticed that Abby's character is different from the game image, and producer Neil explained this.

In the second season of The Last of Us, Abby's muscles are not as developed as in the game. Recently, Neil told Entertainment Weekly that because the plot of the HBO TV series focuses more on drama than action, it is acceptable for actress Kaitlyn Dever to have a different body shape from the game character Abby.

Neil said: "It's hard to find someone as good as Caitlin to play this role. In the game, players have to play both Ellie and Abby, so we need to make them play differently. Ellie is smaller and more flexible, while Abby is more like Joel and can handle things with physical strength. In the HBO series "The Last of Us", this difference does not play such a big role because there are not so many violent actions. It's more about drama. But I'm not saying that there are no action scenes in the series, just that there are different priorities and ways of handling them."

"I thought it was a great opportunity to delve into someone who might be more physically fragile than Abby is in the game, but who is much more mentally strong," said producer Craig Mazin. "And then the question becomes, where does her awesome nature come from and how does it manifest? That's something we'll explore now and in the future."
