According to foreign media reports, according to a new study, although the world of science fiction and superheroes is still dominated by men, it seems that films and TV series led by women are more needed by boys and girls. More importantly, they can also help women improve their self-esteem. On Monday local time, BBC America and the Women's Media Center released a joint research data report. The survey of 2,431 girls and boys aged 5 to 19 last summer found that people of every age group would like to see more female leads in science fiction and superhero films and TV series. Characters like Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Princess Leia, Doctor Who's first female Doctor, and more can help girls grow in confidence as they watch their adventures. The data also showed that there is a 23% gap between teenage boys and teenage girls in their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, and one-third of teenagers agree that girls have less opportunities than boys to become leaders. Additionally, teenage girls surveyed were significantly less likely than boys of the same age to associate themselves with being confident, brave and a listener. "Our research found that female sci-fi and superhero characters can help close the confidence gap for girls and make them feel strong, brave, confident, inspired, motivated and driven," Julie Burton, president of the Women's Media Center, said in a statement. |
