Liu Yifei's version of "Mulan" movie approved in the country, plot revealed

Disney's live-action film "Mulan" starring Liu Yifei has officially been launched in China.

The Film Bureau released information that the registered film title is "Legend of Mulan", and the filing units are Beijing Light and Shadow Times and Cricket Jump Production New Zealand Co., Ltd. The plot synopsis was also revealed: In ancient China, a young woman disguised herself as a man to join the army in order to save her father. During the magnificent journey across the vast land of China, she survived the intense training and war, discovered the warrior in her heart, and finally saved the emperor and her country from foreign invaders.

In the filing information, the film is listed in the co-production column, but according to the words "Licensed by the Film Association" in front of "The Legend of Mulan", this current filing should not be considered a co-production in China (the words are "Film Co-production"), but a co-production, similar to "Kill Bill", "Iron Man 3", "Cloud Atlas", etc.: with Chinese participation and Chinese companies, but dominated by foreign parties.

When co-productions are introduced to the mainland, they are treated as imported films and count towards the quota for imported films, so the producers do not receive a share of the box office revenue from co-productions. Nowadays, there are fewer co-productions than co-productions.

The film is directed by Niki Caro, written by Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and will be released in North America on March 27, 2020.
