Director of SHIELD responds to "The Departed" director's criticism of Marvel movies: It won't affect our filming

During the National Day holiday, we reported that veteran Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street) criticized Marvel movies for not being “movies” at all in an interview with Empire magazine. In addition to James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, who responded on Twitter that day, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD and uses “Motherfxxker” as his catchphrase, also responded today (8).

He told Variety that it is reasonable for people to have different opinions, just as many people don't like Scorsese's own movies. "I mean, it's like discussing whether Bugs Bunny is funny or not. Movies are movies, and everyone has things they don't like and opinions they have, so I don't think it's a big deal, and his words won't stop anyone from continuing to make movies."

The director of SHIELD's remarks seemed rather tactful, but they also expressed his disregard for the criticism. Director Gunn had previously publicly responded on Twitter that he was very disappointed and hoped that Scorsese would at least watch a super movie before making such criticism.

Martin Scorsese's next film is the gangster movie "The Irishman" with his old partners Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. It will be released on November 1 and will be available on Netflix on November 27. In terms of schedule, there is no conflict or obvious competition with other superhero movies, and the subject matter and audience are obviously very different. Therefore, many fans think that Martin's move is more like a hype for himself before the release, but it underestimates the mainstream influence of Marvel in today's society and is not a wise move.
