The Meg was rescheduled to be released in North America in August 2018 and was completed in January this year

According to foreign media reports, the Sino-US co-produced sci-fi action film "The Meg", starring Jason Statham and Li Bingbing, was originally scheduled to be released in China during the 2018 Spring Festival and in North America on March 2. Today, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the film's North American release date has been postponed to August 10, 2018. As for whether the Chinese release date will remain the same, the Chinese film company said that it has not yet been determined.

In January 2017, the film "The Meg" was announced to be completed in Hainan, and a year-long post-production began. "The Meg" is adapted from the science fiction series of the same name by American writer Steve Alton. It is directed by American director Joe Dettoba, who has shot the "National Treasure" series. British action star Jason Statham and Chinese actress Li Bingbing are the leading actors. Australian actress Ruby Rose, who became famous for starring in the popular American TV series "Orange Is the New Black", Taiwanese actor Zhao Wenxuan, and child star Cai Shuya, who starred in "Somewhere Only We Know", also play major roles in the film.

The filming crew of "The Meg" in Hainan consists of nearly 300 people, including 170 Chinese staff members, and brings together elites from various film professions from China, the United States, New Zealand and other countries. The crew filmed exterior scenes in Hainan's landmark scenic spots such as Tianya Haijiao and Dadonghai, and more than 1,300 extras were mobilized during the period. It is reported that for a fishing village scene in the film, the art team of "The Meg" recreated a real village in Sanya that highly restored the environment, local customs and people in the film. The entire film was shot in many countries, and a global storm surrounding the megalodon is about to leap onto the screen.

The film tells the story of an international scientific research project led by China. While it was being carried out in the depths of the Mariana Trench, it was suddenly attacked by unknown creatures and the researchers were trapped on the seabed. Former US Marine Corps deep-sea diving expert Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) was ordered to rescue and once again encountered the prehistoric creature Megalodon, which had left him with an indelible memory for life in the deep sea several years ago. Jonas teamed up with Chinese female scientist Zhang Suyin (Li Bingbing) in the scientific research project to successfully rescue the trapped people, but a series of accidents occurred in the rescue operation. When the prehistoric giant Megalodon escaped from the deep sea, everyone would face an unprecedented disaster crisis.
