Disney's live-action version of "Mulan" will start filming in 2018 and will be shot in China

According to foreign media reports, the live-action version of "Mulan" will start filming at the end of January 2018. The action scenes and adventure scenes in the film will be the main highlights. It is expected to be filmed in China, Australia and New Zealand, and the film will be released in 2019. The plot outline is exactly the same as the story we are familiar with, but according to Disney's previous story model, the core concept of this film should still be the Western value system.

The film was controversial due to rumors of "white casting", but Disney later urgently clarified that the real story will still focus on Mulan. Ang Lee refused to direct the film because he was busy promoting "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk", but he had previously expressed his desire to have an Asian director direct the film. However, in the end, Niki Caro from New Zealand directed the film.

"Mulan" was originally adapted by Disney from the Chinese folk song "The Ballad of Mulan". Like the 1998 animated version, this live-action film tells the love story of Hua Mulan, a female general of the Sui Dynasty who joined the army to fight against the Huns on behalf of her father. As mentioned before, some changes may be made to the storyline, and Mulan may become more powerful. Currently, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, screenwriters of "Jurassic World", have joined.
