James Gunn's Superman: Legacy Renamed to Superman

James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy" has been renamed. On Superman's birthday, Gunn announced on Instagram that the first film in the DC Universe will be renamed "Superman".

Gunn wrote on Instagram: "Today, February 29th, which also happens to be Superman's birthday, I am very happy to announce that "Superman" has officially started shooting. This is completely coincidental and not planned in advance. When I completed the first draft of the script, the film was called "Superman: Legacy". But when the final draft was completed, it was obvious that "Superman" was the most suitable title. The film will be released in July 2025, so stay tuned."

The new film, renamed Superman, will be a fresh start for the DC Universe, so in some ways it makes sense to go back to the beginning. It's reminiscent of the 1978 film of the same name starring the late Christopher Reeve, which set the tone for today's superhero movies. Unlike that film, however, Gunn's version will skip Superman's famous origin story.
