The live-action movie "Borderlands" officially previewed and will be released on August 9

Following the trailer, Gearbox released the official trailer for the live-action movie "Borderlands", which is nearly 3 minutes long. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate in the UK and the US and will be released on August 9 this year.

Full trailer:

Directed by Eli Roth, the Borderlands film is based on the game of the same name developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramirez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Lilith (Blanchett), a notorious treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora in search of the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramirez), the most powerful asshole in the universe. She forms an unlikely alliance with a ragtag crew of accomplices - Roland (Hart), once a respected soldier now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a savage teenage demolition expert; Krieg (Monteanu), Tina's muscled, speech-impaired protector; Tanis (Curtis), a well-informed scientist; and Cleaver Trap (Blake), a chattering, intelligent robot.

These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect a missing girl who may wield unimaginable powers. The fate of the universe may rest in their hands—but they'll be fighting for something far more important: each other.

Lionsgate is a co-production with Media Capital Technologies, produced by Arad/Picturestart and Gearbox Studios/2K. Lionsgate will release Borderlands in the United States and the United Kingdom on August 9, 2024.

It's been hard to determine what tone Eli Roth's Borderlands adaptation is going for, but judging by the first trailer, it looks like the studio is leaning towards Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Adapted from the game series of the same name, Borderlands tells the story of an alien criminal, Lilith (Cate Blanchett), who is from the planet Pandora and returns to her hometown after being wanted in search of a legendary treasure chest filled with treasures.

Although Lilith is familiar with Pandora, she knows that teaming up is the best option to find the treasure. Lilith has little in common with mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), mad scientist Dr. Tanis (Jamie Lee Curtis), demolition expert Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Tiny Tina's bodyguard Craig (Florian Munteanu), and robot Cleaver Trap (Jack Black). But they are enough to form a powerful team to accompany Lilith on her journey to glory.

The trailer shows how effectively Ross and cinematographer Roger Stoffels have emulated the iconic celluloid style of the Borderlands games. From the pee jokes to the shots of the Cleaver Trap robot having explosive diarrhea, the series' sense of dirty humor seems to have been retained. The trailer uses Eloi Light Orchestra's "Do Ya" as the background music as Lilith and her crew sweep across the screen, which seems to indicate that Lionsgate wants Borderlands to be as popular as Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
