Louis Koo said that Chinese people can also make good science fiction films and refuse to imitate Hollywood

"The Tomorrow War", starring Louis Koo and known as China's first mecha hard science fiction blockbuster, has just been released and is currently in theaters. Louis Koo recently expressed his views on the film. The special effects production of the film can be called a visual feast, with fortresses in the sky, mechas galloping on the ground, alien monsters in the ruins, as well as long-range attacks and close combat, all of which make the audience dazzled.

It is particularly worth mentioning that the story of "The Tomorrow War" still has the flavor of traditional Hong Kong films with "police and bandit" themes, coupled with the "mecha science fiction" shell, which surprised the audience. They did not expect that domestic "mecha science fiction" could be so beautiful and exciting.

The released version of "Tomorrow's War" is only 99 minutes long. The short length makes the film's editing crisp and clear, with a visual sense of fighting from beginning to end. The setting of the mecha in the film is also very unique. The names of the giant mechas "Xingtian" and "Qiongqi" come from ancient Chinese myths and legends. This combination of traditional myths and future mechas shows a unique aesthetic with a strong oriental charm.

It is particularly worth mentioning that many action scenes in "The Tomorrow War" incorporate very strong oriental martial arts aesthetics, including the battles between mechas, which are not just simple collisions between steel and iron, but also involve many action techniques and martial arts routines.

"The Tomorrow War" used more than 1,700 special effects shots, accounting for 90% of the entire film. During the filming, the film used a combination of real scenes and special effects, using pure metal to create wearable mechas, and built a large number of important scenes in the film on a one-to-one basis. The crew converted a stadium into an air force combat base and built a temporary helipad in the center of the stadium, as if they had built a castle.

They also built a giant gimbal with shaking and vibration functions to simulate the real bumps of a car on the road. Liu Qingyun, one of the film's leading actors, couldn't help but sigh: "It's really crazy. I have never seen such a huge production."

Louis Koo, the executive producer of "The Tomorrow War", also said that he refused to imitate Hollywood and wanted to make Chinese mecha movies. On the 9th, Louis Koo appeared at the post-screening meeting of the movie "The Tomorrow War" and talked about his original intention of making movies: "If you only look at whether you can make money when making movies, then many movies will not be made in the future. No matter what difficulties there are, science fiction movies must be made. For the diversification of Eastern science fiction, I am willing to make more contributions."

Louis Koo said that foreign films like to show individual heroism, but in "Tomorrow's Squad", it is a small team. "Even if it is to win, it is the team that wins, not the individual. Only by unity can we achieve more things, which is also our persistence in making a drama for so many years."

In addition, he mentioned that the reason why he chose "Reverse War" sung by Zhang Jie as the ending song can be traced back to "Happy Camp" 13 years ago. At that time, he mentioned that he wanted to make a science fiction film, and Zhang Jie was sitting in the audience.

In Louis Koo's view, the original intention of creating "The Tomorrow War" was to enable Chinese people to make good science fiction films, and that they would never make progress by relying on foreigners. This was also recognized by a foreign user at the scene, who said on the spot that he felt that this movie should be liked by users all over the world because the film is very exciting.
