Not just for kids: Mega Man movie screenwriter excited about script

In 2018, Capcom and 20th Century Fox reached a cooperation and announced the production of a live-action movie adapted from the "Mega Man" series of games. At that time, they said that the movie "aims to attract different types of audiences, not only game fans, but also action movie fans." Recently, the film's screenwriter Mattson Tomlin accepted an interview with the media and responded to some questions about the "Mega Man" movie.

Q: How did you develop Mega Man as a movie character?

Mattson Tomlin: I think it's important to treat him as a real person, just like any other character. The question I think about is, what is the compelling story? What is the true soul of this character? We all know the blue cartoon character that jumps and shoots, and that's something that fans of the game can relate to. But what is the center of the story, what is this character going through? It needs to be universal, raw, emotional, and something that everyone can relate to. So I'm excited about the script right now. I'm also excited about what the movie is going to do, and hopefully we'll have news about it soon.

Q: Will it be a movie for kids like Sonic?

Mattson Tomlin: I think kids will enjoy it, and I can't say who we're comparing it to because that would be revealing, but it's not a movie that's strictly for kids, and it's certainly not an R-rated movie.

The release date of the live-action "Mega Man" movie has not been announced yet.
