"Transformers 7" grossed 82 million yuan on its first day in China

Transformers: Rise of the Power Rangers (Transformers 7) was released simultaneously in China and the US on June 9, with a domestic box office of about 82 million yuan on the first day (including midnight screenings), making it the second best first-day performance of a Hollywood imported film this year, second only to Furious 10. The film fared slightly better in North America, with $8.8 million in advance screenings, comparable to Transformers 4's $8.75 million, which opened in North America in 2014 at over $100 million.

The market performance of Transformers 7 in mainland China was OK this year, but it was quite average compared with previous years. In January 2019, Bumblebee (identified as Transformers 6) grossed 111 million RMB on its first day, and in 2017, Transformers 5 grossed 290 million RMB on its first day.

Deadline, a foreign media outlet, predicts that Transformers 7 will take in around $25 million on its first day in North America, while Transformers 4 took in $41.86 million on its first day in 2014, so the film is expected to take in $68 million on its first day in North America. Transformers 7 is facing a strong rival in North America, Spider-Man: Into the Universe, which is expected to take in $16.5 million on its second Friday. With its high reputation, it may even win the championship for the second time in a row.
