15 years after its release, Kristen Stewart says Twilight is a 'gay movie'

It has been 15 years since the vampire romance movie "Twilight", adapted from the novel of the same name, was released in November 2008.

Recently, female lead Kristen Stewart said in an interview with foreign media "Variety" that "Twilight" is a "gay movie", although she does not think "it was like this at the beginning."

Stewart, who is openly gay, furthered her theory by citing the film's Gothic themes: "I mean, Jesus Christ, Taylor, Robert and me, it's so insidious, it's so bad." She added that the story "is all about oppression, about things that want to destroy you, which is a very Gothic queer thing that I love."

Many vampire stories, from Bram Stoker's classic Dracula to Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, have explored themes like sexual fluidity, so what makes Twilight different?

And the fact that original author Stephenie Meyer's stories don't feature any LGBTQ+ characters may call into question Stewart's observations about the series' inadvertent homoeroticism. To this, the star argued that while she didn't know it at the time, "the fact that I was there, it was seeping in."

<<:  IGN gave the prequel series "Ted" a score of 6, which did not bring much new ideas.

>>:  The final volume of "Teasing Master Takagi-san" is released, and the official commemorative PV voiced by Kaji Yuki is released
