Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie to start production in February

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may have just hit theaters on December 20 of last year, but it looks like fans won't have to wait too long to see news about Sonic the Hedgehog 4. As it's apparently set to enter pre-production next month.

First discovered by the Sonic fan account, the Motion Picture and Television Industry Alliance (a film and television production tracking website) gave a shooting date of February 28, 2025, with an expected release window of Spring 2027.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 likely won't actually begin "filming" on February 28. Rather, it will enter pre-production, which includes finalizing the script, as well as other elements like casting and budget. Still, this would represent another major step forward in the hugely successful field of video game adaptations.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a money-printing machine

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 helped the series surpass $1 billion in box office revenue, even successfully competing with Disney's The Lion King movie.

While the film's post-credits scene gave fans a good idea of what to expect next, it's unclear if Keanu Reeves (as Shadow) or Jim Carrey (as Eggman) will return.

Jim Carrey recently said he would "consider" returning, adding: "I never turn down a role unless it doesn't interest me. I love this team and it's fun to make a movie with them." As for Keanu, the situation remains unclear, but considering Shatner's popularity, he will likely return as well.
