James Cameron: Live-action filming of Avatar 2 has been completed

Legendary Hollywood director James Cameron has now confirmed that the live-action shooting of "Avatar 2" has been completed. Cameron revealed that this series of shooting includes motion capture shooting and live-action shooting, and it is shot in multiple parts at the same time, which is very complicated.

Cameron said: They are shooting the remaining live-action parts of the four "Avatar" sequels in New Zealand. The latest progress is that there are about 10% left to be filmed. "Avatar 2" has been completed, and "Avatar 3" has about 5% left.
These films require a lot of post-production work, and Cameron also said that they will start working on Avatar 3 as soon as Avatar 2 is released. Although the outbreak of the new coronavirus has delayed the filming schedule (and the release date), it also gives them an extra year, but it does not mean that they have plenty of time.

The sequel to Avatar is a special project that was planned with multiple films. Generally speaking, 2 and 3 were filmed together, and 4 and 5 were filmed together, and there were also several films that were filmed together. Last February, Cameron revealed that the motion capture of Avatar 2 and 3 had been completed, but the motion capture of Avatar 4, which was also in progress, had not been completed, and the remaining parts would have to wait until the young actors grew up a little bit before they could be filmed. At the same time, preparations had to be made for the upcoming live-action filming, which was a very large and complex task. In addition, the sequel to Avatar involved a lot of underwater motion capture, so the crew also developed their own motion capture shooting methods.

"Avatar 2" will be released in North America on December 16, 2022, and the other film release dates are: "Avatar 3" on December 20, 2024, "Avatar 4" on December 18, 2026, and "Avatar 5" on December 22, 2028.
