As the Barbie movie continues to be a huge success, actress Margot Robbie is expected to reap huge earnings. As the star and producer of the film, Robbie's salary and bonus totaled $50 million, according to Variety. Director Greta Gerwig will also receive a bonus tied to the film's performance. While her earnings have not been made public, it is speculated that it is a back-end compensation/profit sharing agreement based on box office revenue. This is similar to Warner Bros.' Joker movie a few years ago. The movie also grossed over $1 billion, with director Todd Phillips reportedly receiving a $100 million bonus and star Joaquin Phoenix also receiving a "generous" salary. Barbie has earned over $525 million in the U.S. and over $1 billion worldwide. It is also the 25th highest-grossing film of all time, ahead of Captain America: Civil War, Aquaman, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel. It is also the second highest-grossing film of all time for Warner Bros., behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Barbie also became the highest-grossing film ever directed by a female director in the United States, surpassing Frozen 2. |
