The Meg 2, starring two tough guys Wu Jing, Jason and Statham, has been released from the media, with IGN giving it only a 4-point rating. The film also received poor reviews on MTC, with an average media score of only 42. The Rotten Tomatoes rating is even worse, with a freshness rating of only 23%. IGN Rating: 4 points The Meg 2 is a terrible sequel that relies too much on cribbing from other well-made blockbusters of the same genre, and is destined to be one of the biggest disasters of the summer. Overall review: The entire excitement of The Meg 2 is like fishing alone for two hours without a single bite. Director Ben Wheatley is a shell behind the camera, devoid of personality and originality. If you cribbed the greed-driven plot, underwater escape sequence, and helmet-exploding death from better movies, maybe don't make it so obvious? Especially since the studio producers didn't seem to care enough to make a sequel that delivered on its own merits. The Meg 2 is a horrible, Meg-like misstep, a helpless patchwork of parts ripped from across the genre's history, all of which would have been weak and bland in worse hands. |
