The live-action "Barbie" movie continues to sweep North American theaters. The film's box office revenue in the United States and Canada reached 52 million US dollars in two consecutive working days, breaking the record previously held by Warner Films' "Batman: The Dark Knight" and "Aquaman". The live-action Barbie film set record Monday and Tuesday box office revenues for the studio, earning $26.1 million in the U.S. and $26 million in Canada, Deadline reported. The Greta Gerwig-directed pink humor tour also grossed more than $200 million in five days. According to reports, "Barbie"'s box office revenue on Tuesday exceeded the $24.4 million of "The Dark Knight" on July 22, 2008 and the $21.98 million of "Aquaman" on December 25, 2018. Outside of Warner Bros., "Barbie" ranked fifth in July in terms of Tuesday box office revenue, behind films such as "Spider-Man: Far From Home" and "Transformers". "Barbie" has surpassed "La La Land" at the global box office to become the highest-grossing film starring Ryan Gosling in his career. "Barbie" grossed $531 million worldwide in its 8th day of release, surpassing the movie "Gone Girl" ($517 million) and rising to eighth place in the year. It is expected that by the end of this weekend, "Barbie" will break the $600 million or even $700 million global box office mark, with momentum not inferior to this year's champion "Super Mario Bros." (a total of $693 million in two weeks of global release, and $1.349 billion in the end). |
