Despite the poor box office performance of the first film, the video game adaptation "Dungeons & Dragons: Rogue One" may still get a sequel, but the budget of the sequel may be lower. According to Variety, Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins said that a sequel to the Dungeons & Dragons movie is still under consideration. However, he admitted that the budget for the sequel would need to be lower than the $150 million that Rogue One cost, saying, "We have to find a way to make it for less money." Although it received positive reviews from critics and fans, Honor underperformed at the box office, grossing just over $200 million worldwide. The film received a 90% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, while over 2,500 fan ratings gave the film an audience score of 93%. The Wizards of the Coast team said the film's poor box office performance could be due to the decreasing importance of theaters over time, and they expect a digital release could give the film a much-needed financial boost. Although Paramount Pictures has yet to announce a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons, writing and directing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are still considering possible directions for the sequel. Specifically, the second film may have the core team exploring new monster-filled locations, and Chris Pine's bard Edgin may finally use magic. |
