"The Flash" becomes Warner Bros.' most unprofitable movie in 100 years, losing about $200 million

DC's latest movie "The Flash" has been released for 18 days and the North American market has finally exceeded 100 million US dollars. As of now, the global cumulative box office is 247 million US dollars.

It is reported that the production cost of this film is 220 million US dollars and the publicity and distribution costs are 150 million US dollars. For the film's producer Warner, there is basically no hope of making a profit from the box office.

Considering that the film will be released on streaming media on the 18th of this month, if the film continues its current downward trend in box office revenue, the global total box office may not exceed US$280 million in the end, which will cause Warner to lose about US$200 million and become the biggest box office failure in Warner's 100-year history.

In 2011, the $200 million Green Lantern only earned $220 million at the box office, with Warner losing $75 million. In 2015, Jupiter Ascending lost $120 million. In 2017, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword lost $153.2 million, which was Warner's biggest box office failure in recent years. Last year's Black Adam reportedly lost $50-100 million.

2020s DC movie box office performance:

2020 "Birds of Prey": Box office 201M, cost 82M [break-even]

2020 "Wonder Woman 1984": Box office 166.4M, cost 200M [loss]

2021 "Suicide Squad 2": Box office 167.1M, cost 185M [loss]

2022 "Batman": Box office 771M, cost 200M [profit]

2022 "Black Adam": Box office 391.3M, cost 200M [loss]

2023 "Shazam 2": Box office 132.2M, cost 125M [loss]

2023 "The Flash": Box office 246.8M (so far), cost 200M [loss]
