"The Little Mermaid" attracts more black audiences, and the lead actor has ideas for a sequel

Although the live-action movie "The Little Mermaid" received an A rating from CinemaScore, its box office revenue declined over the weekend, earning $95.4 million in its first three days in North America, and $117.5 million in the four days including Monday, which was slightly lower than industry expectations.

North American ticket purchase records show that female audiences account for 68% of ticket purchases, blacks account for 35%, whites account for 33%, Latinos account for 23%, and Asians account for 9%. Analysts are worried that Asian moviegoers may feel uncomfortable with a black actress playing Ariel, which will affect local box office. The film has only recorded $68.1 million in overseas box office, and the global total box office is less than $200 million (185.6 million). It has become very difficult for "The Little Mermaid", which cost $250 million to produce, to break even.

Recently, Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King were interviewed and talked about whether they would reprise their roles if "The Little Mermaid 2" was filmed. Halle Bailey expressed her love for the animated sequel "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea". "In the second part, they have a girl, a baby girl, and she wants to go into the water. It's like a reversal of things. I like that movie." Jonah Hauer-King said: "I would like to do that. I also kind of want to be a mermaid, so we can also promote this storyline with her in some way."

Halle Bailey also talked about the issue of racial discrimination, and she was proud to be a black princess and role model for the new generation of young audiences.
