James Wan's new project is in production, a movie adapted from Stephen King's work

James Wan is producing a feature-length film adaptation of Stephen King's short novel "Monkey", and "White Lotus Resort" actor Theo James has confirmed to star in the film.

According to DEADLINE, Osgood Perkins, the screenwriter of "The Twilight Zone", will be responsible for the script and directing.

Stephen King's original novel, nominated for a 1982 British Fantasy Award, tells the story of two brothers, Peter and Dennis, who find a toy monkey that hits a gong in the attic. The film awards the brothers, renamed Hal and Bill, find the monkey and a horrific chain of deaths begins.

DEADLINE reports: "The brothers decide to get rid of the monkey and move on with their lives, growing increasingly estranged over the years. But when mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey forever before death threatens the lives of everyone close to them."

Stephen King previously wrote a similar story for an episode of The X-Files, where the monkey toy was replaced by a cursed doll.

“Stephen King is the Godfather of horror,” said James Wan. “He has been a huge influence on my childhood and throughout my career, and it has always been a dream of mine to bring one of his stories to life. “Monkey” is a personal favorite of mine; it’s simple, iconic, and extremely marketable. And I can’t imagine anyone better to bring it to life than a visionary and lifelong fan like Osgood.”

"Monkey" currently does not have a release date.
