Nolan's new film is named "Odyssey", Homer's epic poem debuts on the big screen

Universal Pictures announced that Nolan's new film will be named "Odyssey". It will be a "mythical action epic" shot around the world using new IMAX film technology and will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Nolan's "Odyssey" will "bring the founding legend of Homer's epic to the IMAX movie screen for the first time," retelling this ancient Greek epic written in the 8th or 7th century BC.

While Universal Pictures has not revealed any further details about Nolan's "Odyssey," which tells the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who travels the world for 10 years trying to get home after the Trojan War, reports have already outlined the film's cast.

Matt Damon was reportedly the first person to negotiate with Nolan to star in the new film, which would mark his return to Universal Pictures following 2023's "Oppenheimer," which won seven Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director.

In addition to Damon, there are Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o and Robert Pattinson.

The following information comes from Wikipedia:

The Iliad and the Odyssey are two long epics compiled by the ancient Greek poet Homer based on short songs circulated among the people, namely, the Iliad and the Odyssey, each with 24 volumes.

The Odyssey

The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who wandered for ten years on his way home after conquering Troy. It focuses on the last year and a few dozen days of these ten years. Odysseus offended the sea god and was teased by the gods. He drifted on the sea for ten years and suffered everywhere. Finally, he was able to return home with the mercy of the gods. When Odysseus was stranded in a foreign land, the nobles of Ithaca and neighboring countries took advantage of his weak wife and young children and proposed to his wife Penelope, forcing her to remarry. Penelope tried every means to delay. Finally, Odysseus returned home disguised as a beggar, and killed all the suitors with his son, and restored his power in Ithaca.
