"Super Mario Bros. Movie" grossed nearly 2.6 billion yuan worldwide in 5 days

Although there was not much publicity in China, the domestic box office of "Super Mario Bros. Movie" has exceeded 50 million in four days after its release. In foreign countries, this animated film adapted from the game is even more popular. According to media reports, the global box office has exceeded 377.2 million US dollars (about 2.59 billion yuan) in five days.

According to Deadline, the box office of "Super Mario Bros. Movie" exceeded the record of "Transformers 2" in 2009 in 5 days of release. In response, Universal Pictures' distribution director said:

“The incredible collaboration of Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto’s iconic characters, coupled with the unparalleled filmmaking and storytelling capabilities of Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri, has resulted in this explosive moment at the global box office. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds have flocked to theaters to immerse themselves in this extraordinary big-screen celebration.”

In addition, Deadline also reported that "Super Mario Bros. Movie" became the highest-grossing opening night movie in the history of IMAX animated films with a box office of US$21.6 million (approximately RMB 148 million).
