Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie is in production and is expected to be released in 2027

Paramount Pictures is preparing for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with the studio expecting the latest entry in the family-friendly series to be released in spring 2027.

This Friday, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opens in 3,800 theaters in North America and is expected to gross between $55 million and $60 million. The sequel is shaping up to be a big hit for Paramount during the holiday season, so there's a lot of interest in more Sonic the Hedgehog adventures. Internationally, the film will open in 52 markets on Christmas Day. Critics are also loving the new film, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 holding an impressive 87% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The two films have grossed a combined $725.2 million at the global box office and generated more than $180 million in global home entertainment rentals and digital purchases. They also inspired a spinoff series, Knuckles, on the Paramount+ streaming platform, which premiered earlier this year.
