'Avatar' star Michelle Rodriguez says she has no intention of returning for sequel

In an interview with Vanity Fair, actress Michelle Rodriguez said she has no interest in reprising her character Trudy in future films of the sci-fi series Avatar. She said director James Cameron told her that he was considering bringing Rodriguez back to the Avatar franchise, but she has no plans to return again.

Trudy was a pilot who sacrificed herself to help the Na'vi and died heroically at the end of the original 2009 "Avatar." Rodriguez said Cameron told her about the possibility of resurrecting Trudy, to which she responded, "You can't do that. I died a martyr, Jaime."

Rodriguez said she's been down this road before. Her characters from Resident Evil and Machete have returned in future sequels, but she doesn't want to do it again.

"That's a little too much! I don't understand it, it's so weird," she said in an interview with Variety magazine. "I guess they didn't know what to do with the female character who didn't have a boyfriend. 'She doesn't have a boyfriend. Should we keep her alive or kill her off?'"

It's unclear if Cameron is suggesting Rodriguez return to Avatar to play Trudy again or another character, which wouldn't be a first for the sci-fi franchise. Sigourney Weaver's character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in the original film. Weaver played a young Na'vi girl named Kiri in The Way of Water, prompting some to believe Kiri could be the reincarnation of Dr. Grace. However, there's still no official answer to the question.
