Film producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for two counts of sexual assault in a New York court in 2020. He was recently sentenced to 16 years in prison for three counts of sexual assault in a Los Angeles court. Weinstein is 71 years old this year, which basically means he will spend the rest of his life in prison. The trial in California this time included accusations against Weinstein by four women, involving incidents that occurred in Los Angeles County between 2004 and 2013. The charges brought to court included two counts of rape and five other sexual assault charges, all of which Weinstein pleaded not guilty to. On December 19 last year, a 12-member jury found Weinstein guilty of three counts of sexual assault, including one count of rape. All three of these charges were based on accusations made by anonymous woman No. 1, a European model. Now a 16-year sentence has been announced. Before the sentence was announced, Weinstein made his final defense. He insisted to the court that he was innocent, saying that he had never raped or sexually assaulted the anonymous woman No. 1 and that he did not know her. "No disrespect, but she is an actor and can cry." Weinstein claimed that he was framed and believed that there were many loopholes and things wrong with the case. He asked the jury not to sentence him to life in prison and said that he had no intention of causing harm, but to create happiness. "I have been creating happiness for people for many years." Afterwards, anonymous woman 1 wept in court, saying that Weinstein raped her in her hotel room after the Italian Film Festival in Los Angeles in 2013. Ten years later, she still found it difficult to stand in court, and the impact of the sexual assault was still fresh. She had been heavy-hearted and traumatized for years, and irrationally believed that everything was her fault. She said that before the incident, she was a confident, happy woman, a loving mother and wife, a good friend, with a career and life, and was positive about the future, but after being violated, everything changed. "The person who raped me may not have thought about me since that night, but I can't get rid of him in my mind every day." "Today, the defendant was sentenced not because I was wrong, but because his behavior was illegal and it was rape. ... He can no longer hurt anyone." In 2020, Weinstein was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault in a New York court and sentenced to 23 years in prison. The case is currently under appeal. |
