"Top Gun: Maverick" won the AARP Best Movie Award

Paramount Pictures' "Top Gun: Maverick," the most successful Hollywood film last year besides "Avatar: The Way of Water," won the Best Film award at the 2023 AARP Movies for Adults Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in the United States on Saturday.

Nominees for the award include Warner Bros.' "Elvis," A24's "The Blink of an Eye," Universal Pictures/Amblin's "House of Dreams," Focus Features' "Tár," Orion/UAR's "Women's Talk" and Sony's "Daho Warrior."

Baz Luhrmann, director of "Elvis", won the Best Director Award, and "Elvis" itself also won the Best Time Capsule Award, becoming the film with the most awards of all the films that night.

Michelle Yeoh, star of "Blink", and Brendan Fraser, star of "The Whale", won the Best Actress and Best Actor awards.

In the television categories, the Best Drama Series award went to FX's "The Old Man," with its lead actor Jeff Bridges also winning Best TV Actor, while ABC's "Elementary" won Best TV Actress for Sheryl Lee Ralph.

AARP, whose awards are designed to highlight films and shows that speak directly to audiences over 50, also gave its Career Achievement Award to renowned American actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
