Recently, Bethesda director Todd Howard revealed some news about the "Fallout" series in an interview with Lex Fridman. He said that Amazon's "Fallout" series will tell an original story that is completely independent of the game, although both are set in the Fallout world.

"I remember 10 years ago, after Fallout 3 became popular, some film producers came to us and said, 'Hey, we think this would be a great movie,' and there were a lot of meetings and I think most people were happy to accept it," he recalled. "I don't know what this can do? I don't see the greatness of it yet."

Howard was skeptical because the producers' early idea was to "synthesize" the games into a show, which wasn't going to work. That all started to change when Amazon came up with the idea of ​​telling an entirely new story, with Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy as head writers.

“When people wanted to make a Fallout movie, they wanted to tell the story of Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, but that wasn’t possible,” Howard said. “Amazon said, let’s make something that exists in the Fallout universe. It’s not a retelling of the game, but it’s just a limited map area and tells a story that takes place in the Fallout world. It doesn’t break any rules and it references the game content, but it’s not a retelling of the game.”
