The Last of Us season finale draws record 8.2 million viewers

HBO recently announced that the final episode of the first season of the live-action series "The Last of Us" reached 8.2 million viewers in the United States on the HBO Max streaming platform and TV stations on its first night. This also set a new record for first-night ratings.

HBO also released the specific ratings for the first season of the series. The first episode, which aired in January, has attracted more than 40 million viewers in the United States alone, and the average total audience for episodes 1 to 6 is 30.4 million. Outside the United States, The Last of Us has become the most watched series on HBO Max in Europe and Latin America.

The series' ratings climbed with each episode. The fifth episode premiered on HBO Max two days early to avoid a conflict with the Super Bowl. The statistics include viewership from Friday to Sunday, which reached 11.6 million.

The specific audience numbers for each episode are as follows:

Episode 1: 4.7 million (first aired on January 15)

Episode 2: 5.7 million (first aired on January 22)

Episode 3: 6.4 million (first aired on January 29)

Episode 4: 7.5 million (premiered on February 5)

Episode 5: 11.6 million (February 10-12)

Episode 6: 7.8 million (premiered on February 19)

Episode 7: 7.7 million (first aired on February 26)

Episode 8: 8.1 million (first aired on March 5)

Episode 9: 8.2 million (first aired on March 12)

The Last of Us Season 2 is confirmed to return, and HBO has not yet announced the specific broadcast date and content. It is expected to describe the plot of the second part of the game. However, series producer Craig Mazin and game screenwriter Neil Druckmann said that Season 2 will not cover the entire plot of the second game, indicating that perhaps Season 3 is in production.
