8 years ago today, Nolan's sci-fi film "Interstellar" was released

Eight years ago today, the sci-fi film Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, was released in theaters. The film grossed $773 million worldwide, making it the tenth highest-grossing film of 2014. Most critics praised the film's sci-fi theme, soundtrack, visual effects, and performances.

Interstellar began filming in late 2013, with locations including Alberta, Canada, Iceland, and Los Angeles, California, USA. The film used a wealth of miniature models to practice the effects, while VFX created additional digital effects.

Interstellar was nominated for five awards at the 87th Academy Awards, and eventually won the "Best Visual Effects Award". It was nominated for 10 awards at the 41st Saturn Awards for American Science Fiction and Horror Films, including Best Science Fiction Film, Best Director, and Best Actor and Actress.
