HBO's Arkham Asylum series finds writer and director

HBO Max's Batman spin-off series Arkham Asylum has found a new screenwriter, Antonio Campos. It is reported that once his version of the series is approved, Campos will serve as the director, producer and producer of the series.

Although Matt Reeves previously said that the previously planned "Gotham PD" series evolved into the current "Arkham Asylum" series, an independent source familiar with the show broke the news to Variety that the two series are actually completely separate and the "Gotham PD" series will still be developed.

Reeves is an executive producer on Arkham Asylum, and while there is no official plot yet, Reeves has previously described it as being like a horror movie or haunted house version of Arkham. This is the second Batman spinoff to be announced, following reports that Colin Farrell will reprise his role as The Penguin in his own standalone series.

Campos is already a familiar face at HBO Max, as he previously worked with the streaming service on the critically acclaimed true crime limited series The Staircase, which Campos served as writer, director, executive producer and showrunner, and which starred Colin Firth and Toni Collette.

In addition to The Staircase, Campos previously served as executive producer and director on multiple episodes of USA Network’s hit crime series The Sinner, including the pilot and the Season 2 premiere. He also directed an episode in the first season of Marvel’s Netflix co-production The Punisher.
