'Friends' actor thanks Rachel for helping him deal with his drinking problem

Chandler actor, Matthew Perry has thanked another "Friends" star for trying to help him with his drinking problem - Jennifer Aniston.

Perry spoke with ABC News correspondent Diane Sawyer in a preview of his upcoming talk show, which drops on Oct. 28, and he recalled Aniston, whom he calls "Jenny," confronting him about his drinking. She said Sawyer reminded Perry, "We know you're drinking."

Perry confirmed the incident.

"Imagine how scary that moment was," he said. "You know, she was the one who helped me the most. I'm really grateful to her for that."

Perry has struggled with addiction. The actor tells all in his new book, Friends, Lovers, and Big, Awful Things: A Memoir, which is out Nov. 1.

Perry earlier told People that he was in the early stages of alcoholism when filming of Friends began. The problem worsened in the following years, to the point where four years ago, his colon ruptured due to opioid use. Perry was in a coma for two weeks, hospitalized for five months, and had to wear a colostomy bag for nine months.

Perry also admitted to Sawyer that he once took "55 Vicodin pills a day," as well as methadone, Xnax, and a bunch of vodka.

“I should have been the star,” Perry said. “Instead, I was alone in a dark place with nothing but drug dealers.”

Perry claimed in the interview that he is now drug and alcohol free, but would not reveal exactly when that transition occurred.
