Tom Hardy's Splinter Cell live-action movie confirmed to have been cancelled

Tom Hardy's Splinter Cell live-action movie confirmed to have been cancelled

In the early 2000s, director Peter Berg was appointed to direct a live-action film adaptation of Ubisoft's classic spy action game Splinter Cell, and then in 2012, the actor of the protagonist Sam Fisher was confirmed to be the famous British movie star Tom Hardy.

However, after more than a decade without any news, most people speculated that the project had been canceled, but some loyal fans still held out hope. Unfortunately, the news of the film's "death" has now been officially confirmed.

Film producer Basil Iwanyk told The Direct that the film was "confirmed dead" and said the project was shelved after the creative team "couldn't handle" the adaptation properly. However, there is apparently some pre-production content for the film, and Iwanyk highly praised the team's work and said it would be great if the film could be shot.

He said: "That movie would have been great... it just wasn't handled well in terms of the script and the budget. But it would have been great. We have a million different versions of it, but it would have been hardcore and great. It's a great movie that we missed out on, and it's a real shame."

Not only the movies, the Splinter Cell game series also fell into silence after 2013. Apart from Sam Fisher's appearance as a character in Rainbow Six: Siege, and a series of crossover missions, novels and comics with Tom Clancy's games, there has been no news of any new games in the series after Blacklist.

The only thing that has been confirmed so far is that Ubisoft is developing a remake of the original game. First announced in 2021, there has been no follow-up news on the project, causing players to give up hope, but recently the official confirmed that it is still in development.
