According to DEADLINE, Warner Bros. is going all-in on Batman director Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho Films production company. He has become the first filmmaker to get an overall first-look deal since Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs/CEOs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdi were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery Head David Zaslav to guide the film division. In addition, Reeves is also working with Warner Bros. Television Group and Chairman Channing Dungey, and he is also working with Colin Farrell on the Batman spinoff series The Penguin. Reeves and 6th & Idaho approached Netflix first. Reeves has been spending a lot of time on film and TV projects related to the Batman franchise, so it made sense for him to sign a multi-year exclusive first-run deal with Warner Bros. DeLuca and Abdi wanted to see him grow into the filmmaker that Todd Phillips has been with The Hangover and Joker franchises, and the role that Clint Eastwood has been with the studio. Under the terms of the film agreement, Warner Bros. Pictures Group's production divisions - Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, Warner Animation Group and DC Films - will have Reeves as writer, director and producer. Reeves is currently back to work on the sequel. The DC film "The Batman," which he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, received a strong response and grossed more than $770 million worldwide. Robert Pattinson will return to star in the sequel. The reunion with Warner Bros. Television Group's 6th & Idaho comes as production begins on The Penguin, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot for the HBO Max series. There's also a Batman: Arkham series in discussion. |
