Jim Carrey talks about the live-action remake of Sonic the Hedgehog: I feel like I'm losing control

Actor Jim Carrey will play the villain Dr. Eggman in the live-action movie "Sonic the Hedgehog". The movie had to be reshot because the Sonic the Hedgehog in the trailer was far from the appearance of everyone's cognition, which caused public outcry. Jim Carrey does not seem to fully agree with this.

Jim Carrey was at the Television Critics Association's annual convention to discuss Kidding Season 2. He was asked about the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie being influenced by social media comments and changing Sonic's design.

“While this is happening and the audience is influencing the creation of the show, I’m not sure how I feel about it. We’ll have to see how it goes, because sometimes you have a collective consciousness that decides it wants something, and then it gets it and says, ‘Okay, I want it. But I don’t care. I’m just following the crowd.’”

The first trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released earlier this year, and netizens generally had a negative reaction to Sonic's image. But long before the trailer was released, people had already been worried about the promotional poster and were always in a negative mood. But we have to admit that Sonic's appearance is a bit strange.

In May of this year, the film's director Jeff Fowler announced that after receiving so much negative feedback, they decided to redesign Sonic's image, and "Sonic the Hedgehog" will be postponed to February 14, 2020.

Gene Kelly said, "For a character like Sonic, everyone feels that it represents their childhood, so there is a sense of ownership." But at the same time, he also said that the emerging technology of converting real-life performances into fake content through AI makes him feel "losing control of the whole process."

The Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie has not yet announced the redesigned Sonic, but Fowler said he is excited about the new image. They believe that fans will definitely like the revised Sonic.
