Cartoonist Akamatsu Ken was elected to the Japanese Diet, becoming the first cartoonist to serve as a member of the Diet

Ken Akamatsu, a Japanese manga artist and author of "The Pure Landlady", tweeted that he had won the Senate election and became the first manga artist member of the Diet in Japan. In his tweet, he said that he would work hard to fulfill his promise and live up to the expectations of voters.

Akamatsu Ken announced his candidacy in 2021, and said his goal was to fight against the overly restrictive expressions in the current animation field; he also advocated further improvements to copyright laws and increased support for childcare. After being elected, Akamatsu Ken said that Japanese comics, animation, and games are now very popular in the world, and as a creator, he really wants to promote peaceful diplomacy and cultivate the animation and game industries.
