A new Star Wars trilogy is in development, led by the producer of X-Men

According to Deadline, a new trilogy of Star Wars movies is in production, with Simon Kinberg, the producer of X-Men, as the screenwriter. Although DeadLine's initial report said that the new trilogy is a continuation of the "Skywalker Saga", IGN cited exclusive sources saying that the new trilogy is not a continuation, but the beginning of a new trilogy.

Simon Kinberg, best known for producing 20th Century Fox's X-Men films and co-creating Star Wars Rebels, will write the trilogy and serve as producer alongside Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy, the report said.

Variety published a report shortly after the Deadline article, saying the trilogy will actually "start a new franchise after 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concludes the Skywalker saga." The Hollywood Reporter report also said it will be an all-new story with new characters.

While Star Wars has been primarily broadcast in television form since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with shows like The Mandalorian and Andor airing on Disney+, its upcoming film lineup has been expanding rapidly, starting with Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian and Goguryeo, which is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

Other Star Wars movies include:

Mangold's film will tell the story of Dawn of the Jedi

Filoni's film will be set in his Mandalorian universe

Obaid-Chinoy's film will tell the story of the new Jedi Order, with Star Wars 7-9 actress Daisy Ridley set to reprise her role as Rey after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Regardless, the New Jedi Order movie seems like the most obvious continuation of the Skywalker saga.
