Thor 3 director's Star Wars movie won't feature old characters

"Thor 3" director Taika Waititi discussed his new "Star Wars" movie. He said that his "Star Wars" movie will focus on a brand new cast and aim to expand the "Star Wars" universe.

In an interview with Total Film, Waititi explained that his goal was not to make a work that relied on the existing Star Wars background, because doing so would not really make Star Wars grow.

“I think if you want to expand the Star Wars universe, you have to expand it,” he said. “I don’t think it’s useful to have a movie where everyone says, ‘Great, that’s the blueprint for the Millennium Falcon, that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’ These have to be standalones. I want to do new things and create some new characters and expand this world, otherwise it feels like a very small story.”

Last August, Waititi said he had finalized the story of the "Star Wars" movie, which fits his own signature style. Waititi's "Star Wars" movie is expected to be released at the end of 2023, but there is very little information leaked so far. We don't even know the cast, the story outline, or even the official name, so it is not ruled out that it will be postponed.
