Naoki Urasawa wins the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Erlangen Comic Con in Germany

One of the largest comic exhibitions in Europe, the official Erlangen Comic Salon in Germany, recently announced that it would award the Lifetime Achievement Award to Japanese cartoonist Naoki Urasawa. This is the first time that a Japanese cartoonist has won such an award.

•The Erlangen Comic Salon is a comic exhibition held every two years in a small town near Frankfurt, Germany. Although it is not as large as the Anguilla Comic Exhibition in France, it is one of the more well-known comic exhibitions in Europe. It has a history of 50 years and can be regarded as a time-honored European comic exhibition.

Naoki Urasawa was born in Tokyo on January 2, 1960. He is a Japanese manga artist. He graduated from the Department of Economics at Meisei University. He made his debut in 1983 with 'BETA!'. His early style was inspirational and warm youth growth comics, but later he turned to a deeper exploration of human nature and social phenomena, covering history, psychology, criminology, science fiction, etc. His representative works include 'YAWARA!', 'MONSTER', '20th Century Boys', and 'PLUTO'.
