"Sonic the Hedgehog 2" topped the US game-adapted movie box office with a total box office of $140 million

According to foreign media VGC, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" has now become the highest-grossing game-adapted movie in the United States in history, surpassing "Detective Pikachu", "Uncharted" and the original "Sonic the Hedgehog".

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now in U.S. theaters for three weeks, and the film is holding steady at No. 2 on the box office charts, adding another $15.6 million to its existing revenue in its third week. That means the film now has a total domestic box office of $146,258,543, according to Box Office Mojo.

Sonic news site Tails' Channel noted that the extra $15.6 million allowed Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to surpass Detective Pikachu, Uncharted, and the original Sonic the Hedgehog, making it the highest-grossing video game adaptation in U.S. history.

It's worth noting that this only involves the US box office, so Sonic the Hedgehog 2 still has some way to go before it becomes the highest-grossing video game-based movie in the world. The film's current global total is $288 million, which puts it in the top ten of video game-based movies at the global box office, behind the original Sonic the Hedgehog, The Angry Birds Movie, Uncharted, Detective Pikachu, and the current No. 1, Warcraft ($439 million worldwide).

At present, "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" has been confirmed to be introduced into China, and the specific release date is to be determined.
